Synopsis:
ICTs have long been established as tools to support the countries of the Global South in their efforts to promote development. Observers often look for best practices that can be shared across developing country contexts including specific regions such as the Caribbean. This track seeks to explore how ICTs have and can be applied to the unique development challenges facing the Caribbean. In so doing we hope to highlight, from a variety of perspectives, how problems related to small size, colonial legacies, a geo-political location between North and South America, and socio-environmental vulnerabilities can be addressed in part by ICTD solutions.

While the term "Caribbean" is itself contested, for purposes of this track we will focus on the Insular Caribbean or the various island nations regardless of linguistic background. This includes research focusing on the English, Spanish, and French speaking islands in the Caribbean. Alternatively, we view development in broad interdisciplinary terms and encourage submissions from a wide range of related fields. This can include for example, technical issues related to access and open source tools, political questions such as Internet governance, social impacts in terms of culture, education and access, environmental challenges related to climate change and disaster management, and economic solutions including supporting small and tourism related businesses.

The language for the session will be English and all submissions should be in English. Please contact the track chairs for any queries or comments.

For paper format and submission guidelines please refer to the main conference website.
